Oslo is live — No-Ack has opened its own datacenter in Norway

Oslo is in production

We have been talking about it for a while. The machines are now spinning: No-Ack Hosting has its own datacenter in Oslo, and you can order today.

This is not a reseller arrangement, nor someone else’s rack that we call ours. It is our own hardware, in our own cluster, on our own network — AS30893, the same autonomous system that runs Stockholm.

What is actually up

Dedicated servers. Server 12-NO sits in Oslo: 2× Intel Xeon 14-core, 64 GB DDR4 ECC, 4× 600 GB SAS in RAID 10, 10 Gbit unmetered and iDRAC over VPN. One left of that configuration. See dedicated servers.

VPS. True KVM on the Proxmox cluster. KVM VPS Mini NO from 172 NOK/year, and PROXMOX OWN DESIGN Norway from 67 NOK/mo if you want to pick CPU, memory and disk yourself. Delivered in minutes. See the VPS plans.

Prices are converted from SEK and the invoice comes in SEK — it says so under every price, so there are no surprises at checkout.

The network is where the difference is

A datacenter is no better than the lines into it. In Oslo we have:

• 100G transit locally in Norway
• 30G to NIX and 100G to FIX — Norwegian traffic stays in Norway
• a 100G link to Stockholm, carrying our peering at Netnod, SONIX, KeffIX, SOLIX, STHIX and AMS-IX

That means traffic to Norwegian users takes the shortest path, and you get our entire Swedish and European exchange footprint along with it. No middlemen reselling you capacity they rent themselves.

Your data stays in Norway

Choose Oslo and your data sits under Norwegian jurisdiction — EEA and GDPR, with no CLOUD Act exposure. Choose Stockholm and it sits in Sweden. You pick the location when you order, and we do not pretend the two are the same thing.

Daily backups are included, as everywhere else with us.

One thing we will say plainly

Oslo runs fast SAS disks, not SSD. Stockholm has SSD. We could have written “blazing-fast storage” and left it there, but you would have found out yourself afterwards, and that is a poor way to start a customer relationship. If you specifically need SSD, take Stockholm — or ask us, and we will see what we can put together.

What comes next

Oslo opened with dedicated servers and VPS. That is the beginning, not the whole plan. We are building on the same hardware and the same network, and the rest of our services move in as they are ready in Norway — not on a date we guessed at in advance.

We have promised dates before and missed them. This time we write about services when they are up and running, exactly as this text was written on the day Oslo actually went into production.
